How should I care for my child’s smile?

Your child’s dental care begins immediately after your little one is born. Even though teeth have yet to come in, it’s vital to care for the gums by wiping them with a clean, damp cloth after meals and before nap time. 

When your child’s first tooth erupts around six months, brush it with a soft-bristled toothbrush and water. As more teeth come in, you can use a non-fluoridated toothpaste and encourage your child to spit it out. Once they are able to spit out the toothpaste without swallowing, you can switch to a fluoridated toothpaste. Continue to guide your child when brushing and flossing teeth, so they acquire good oral habits that will last a lifetime.
